In the same context, many students feel that excelling in sports is a higher priority than school.Others may resort to cheating to make up for their lack of academic motivation or live up to the standards set up by older siblings or parents. Back to top There are many healthy ways to deal with academic pressure. If you don't feel motivated about a subject, arrange a study group. Reward yourself after completing very section. Other ideas include: Finish your work at a nearby cafe © or lib rary if the environment at home is not the best. If you play sports or work, take time to plan your hours to include more study time as well.If you know you have a big game coming up where you will be out for long practices, work ahead. Ask your teachers for assignments for the days you wont have sufficient study time. That lethal sound can only mean one thing; it is September and school is back in session, and along with it are the wandering eyes, cheat sheets, stolen tests, and technology, of course. Cheating has become the method of survival, the on ly way to reach and maintain the top for many†¦ But there are better routes to reach number one while keeping your integrity intact. Activities and fall back on cheating when time runs out. People also resort to cheating when they have been pressured too much by their parents, or even by themselves. Finally, if you are ever caught cheating, the teacher who catches you will tell the rest of your teachers, and their trust in you and your college recommendation letters go out the window. When Friendly Competition Goes Too Far I can speak from experience when it comes to that less-than-helpful sort of imputation between my friends and me that, often times, has been the cause of much of my academic stress. For myself, I didn't want to let my parents or myself down by failing, but I also didn't want to fall below the standa rds of my friends. And when your friends are all in the running for being the class valedictorian, it's hard! But it's important to set your own goals and take on your own responsibility. It's good to be proud of other's accomplishments, but it's important to be proud of your own hard work as well. So every once in a while, make sure to give yourself a pat on the back!

Negligence Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Negligence Law - Essay Example Stevenson.4 This is the seminal case which changed the nature of duty. In this case, the plaintiff found a slug in her ginger beer and sued the proprietor of the store who sold this. The justice stated that duty would be broadly defined, in that anybody who might be harmed by the tortfeasor are people to whom the tortfeasor owes a duty. Therefore, privity is not required. Capraro v. Dickman5 expanded on the Donoghue analysis, stating that duty of care is required when there is foreseeable harm, proximity between the parties and that holding the tortfeasor liable would be reasonable and just. Breach is the next element that needs to be proved. Basically, negligence turns on whether or not the duty of care is breached. According to Bolton v. Stone6 states that the injury must be foreseeable for there to be a breach. In that case, the plaintiff was hit by a cricket ball. However, it was not foreseeable that a cricket ball would fly out of the arena and hit a remote person, therefore, th e injury was not foreseeable and the defendants were held not be negligent and did not breach a duty of care. Overseas Tankship v. Morts Dock and Engineering Co Ltd7 also illustrates this point. In Overseas, the defendants were allowing oil to spill out on water, and they were also sending sparks into the oil on the water. The oil ignited. However, the Overseas court held that the it was not foreseeable for water to ignite, therefore the defendants were not held liable. Causation is the next element. There is direct causation, which means that the defendant directly caused injury, and proximate causation. In proximate causation, the tortfeasor may not have directly caused the injury, but the injury was related to the tortfeasor's actions. defendant’s actions. Courts will classically use the â€Å"but for† test for causation, which means that, but for the defendant's negligence, the injury would not have occurred. Several cases may illustrate how this is applied, or not applied, as the case may be. Courts will not apply hold a defendant negligent if the injury would have occurred anyway, even if there was no negligence. For instance, in the case of South Australia Asset Management Corp. v. York Montague Ltd., a classic example of this type of injury was stated – a mountaineer is about to go on a difficult climb, but is worried about his knee. His doctor negligently examines the mountain climber and tells him he is fit to climb. The climber goes on his climb and is injured. But for the negligent medical examination the climber would not have been on the mountain climb. However, the actual injury has nothing to do with the knee – perhaps the climber is struck by a falling rock on the climb. In this situation, the doctor isn't liable for negligence, even though the climber would never have been injured but for the doctor's negligence. Another example of injury or death which might be held to be result of negligence, but was deemed not t o be the proximate cause of the death is the case of Barnett v Chelsea & Kensington Hospital Management Committee. 8 In this case, a man went to an emergency room but was told to go home and call his doctor. He died of arsenic poisoning. It was held,

Development attraction & retainment of employees Essay

Development attraction & retainment of employees - Essay Example There are situations where employees discuss their working conditions in the social media, and in such a situation the fall is usually on the employee who can not do anything to the employee (Jackson 2011). Many organizations find it a challenge developing a strategy that supports effectual talent acquisition; and this is overlooked mostly because most of the resources that are to be used for this are put into other things that are said to be ‘more important’. However, human resource planning is fundamental to the proficient management and prolonged success of a business, organization or even starting up companies. Often, many organizational administrators, due to circumstances overlook how resources are managed which leads to mismanaged top rank departments. Poor human resource management has both immediate and long term consequences on how the organization functions, policies of employee recruitment and management, and most importantly organizations profitability. More over, the one that has the greatest impact on an organization is employee development, attraction and retaining them; the heart of any organization are the employees and they also determine how successful it will be. When employees are denied some or all the required resources it creates poor working conditions not to mention the environment; moreover, an ineffectual and inadequately functioning department reflects the general condition of dealings in that particular organization and that it is not in any good condition to compete in the market. It also shows that; there isn’t any coordination or communication, poor decision making and grave blunders between the departments and the managerial sector (Dutta 2013). Significantly, in such a situation employee training and development strategies are improperly budgeted for and chances for recruiting or even attracting new employees are eliminated; additionally, the general goals and objectives of the organization are not met. The similar attitude of the high management and the human resources department quickly spreads across all the other departments and employee pecking orders; it affects the work ethics, causes personality conflicts and systematically eliminates team work (Sylvia 2013). Employees lack motivation and they do not put much of their skills and capabilities in the organization. Some employees are at their worst in negative working environments; and in cases where they are not motivated, lack of inducement and acknowledgment they automatically end up performing poorly and work output is of low quality. Employee recruitment and selection is an incessant sequence; and this mostly influenced by organization’s need for business growth, expansion strategies and requirements to complete or start off certain projects or assignments. In an organization that is mismanaged, human resources personnel with an apathetic outlook on things, poor or lack of communication with the administrators are not in any situation to address their requirements in the aspect of labor force (Jackson 2009). As a result, open vacancies and employment postings remain vacant; and in cases whe

Early Intervention to Prevent Divorce Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Early Intervention to Prevent Divorce - Essay Example 277). It's vital that couples understand the impact of marriage on the community and children. The information made available in respect to communication, the help available, and society's expectations is of great importance. It is unfortunate that due to the complexity of the subject little success can be verified with educational programs including PREP (pp. 275, 277). Stanley's suggestion that delaying marriage through a deliberation period may be beneficial, but would not be practical on a mandated level. Beyond being unworkable, a delay has shown no positive effect (p. 273). Some couples will change their mind during this period, but that does not indicate that their marriage would have ended in failure. Our best approach to premarital education is to professionally counsel the couple with the intent of imparting the importance of the union and a method to signal for help in times of distress. This essay is an adequate summary of Stanley's article. The writer covers the main points of the paper and generally agrees with the author. The essay falls a little short on analysis of Stanley's data. Some of the statements in the essay are not supported, or at least not documented, in reference to Stanley's statements. However, it did call for an opinion so this may be a minor issue.

Global blog project Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Global blog project - Essay Example Previous Knowledge With the increase in communication between the Generation Y through social networking and the internet, word-of-mouth has greatly changed the marketing and advertising landscape. Television is fast becoming an obsolete advertising medium for Generation Y. Thus, Marketers have to evolve their practices of market segmentation and targeting in order to develop a brand or a campaign that is accepted by Generation Y. Methodology I plan to discuss the changes in advertising medium and the changes that marketing teams have to make in order to cater to Generation Y. Genre 1: Blog The following blog provides a good insight to marketers regarding the psyche of Generation Y and advertising tactics that marketers could consider: Summer Lovin' For Gen Y with Live Concerts and Mobile Marketing We (referring to the audience in general or specifically potential marketers) all know that no demographic is changing as quickly as the coveted Gen Y demographic.  We also know that for a growing number of brands, they're the segment that is not only the most important, but also the most difficult to engage. But what marketers may not know is that experiential marketing is the best and surest way to reach this elusive set, especially this summer.   Between concert festivals, outdoor sporting events, travel and the general excitement that comes from being "out for summer," the coming months are the perfect time for marketers to get out and about themselves, engaging with these consumers face-to-face. Gen Y now numbers more than 60 million. They're around town, leveraging social media and taking control of every second of their lives and most importantly they are on mobile. This summer they'll tune into whatever they want as easily as they'll tune it out. As a result, brand marketers around the world are retuning how they go to market. There are some interesting stats from a recently conducted a survey with the Event Marketing Institute, surveying several thousand Gen Y consumers. The results are surprising and would help to shape marketing plans as marketers try to reach this elusive demographic.   94% of Gen Y consumers say they would be more likely to buy a product as a result of a good experience at an event. Think about it. If someone went to a concert for an up-and-coming pop star and left wanting more, they would be more likely to buy her CD or download her single, right? But creating that "good experience" is no easy task  Ã‚   MillerCoors understands this and is ramping up mobile at every turn. Gen Y'ers is the first generation that has grown up with the internet as a normal part of everyday life and now the web is in their hands 24/7. In fact, almost half of those surveyed have posted something (a photo, a status update, a Tweet) from or during an event. Because of this proliferation of technology, Gen Y presents a different set of challenges for marketers. Marketers in all brand categories need to plan campaigns that connect w ith consumers, whether they're live or on mobile or both at the same time, and the experiences have to reach consumers' minds. Clearly, marketing to Gen Y is still a tough audience to completely crack. To succeed, marketers need a new rulebook. Here are four rules for ensuring experiences make the critical connection to the Gen Y consumer: Let them in. And we mean all the way in. It is common knowledge that savvy brands use experiential marketing to create ongoing dialogues with consumers. What one might not know is that those conversations now give

Poetry as a means of establishment of a closer connection between a Essay

Poetry as a means of establishment of a closer connection between a poet and a reader - Essay Example To see how thematic issues and such special aesthetic qualities of the genre of poetry combine, one can turn attention to the poem that on the superficial level may seem to be devoted to the description of a filling station visited by the author who is the speaker. However, the theme of the poem is much wider than that - in fact, the authors choice of setting that creates a mini-plot of the poem, of characters, to which not only the owner of the station and his sons may be attributed but dog and even a begonia plant as well, and of a unique atmosphere of surprise and discovery of unusual things in usual environment turns out to be perhaps the best way to simultaneously tell a short story about a short visit to the dirty filling station, and express intense emotion that infects readers and makes them feel like they themselves are wondering about the strange and so invigorating coexistence of dirt, oil, and of elements symbolizing ever-present human concern for happiness and meaning em bodied by wickerwork, comic books, taboret and doily with marguerites, and begonia. The most important tool that enabled the poet to establish such a strong emotional poetic effect over readers was definitely the usage of language in the poem as the author reinforces its thematic content by free v

Platos Contributions Essay Example for Free

Platos Contributions Essay It is believed that Plato, a student of Socrates, was one of the greatest contributors of philosophy. Proof of Platos notoriety in the world of philosophy can be clearly seen with his dialogues and his renowned student Aristotle. Plato’s writings are in the form of dialogues, with Socrates as the principal speaker. With his theory of Forms, he had discussed a wide range of metaphysical and ethical questions while finding inherent connections between the two. Plato also considered epistemological questions, such as whether knowledge is justified true belief. His greatest work, The Republic, developed theories of justice. Proof of a truly great philosopher can be shown by his or her students. As mentioned before, Platos Academy was a breeder of philosophers. One of the most prominent philosophers to come from the Academy was Aristotle. Plato himself took Aristotle under his wing and taught him the ways of understanding and contemplating the world around him. Plato divided his world into two aspects. These worlds have forms, the intelligible world and the perceptual world. Plato saw the perceptual world around us as imperfect copies of the intelligible forms or ideas. In the intelligible world, forms are unchangeable and perfect and only comprehensible by the use of intellect and understanding. For example, a chair is a chair because it â€Å"participates in† the Form of Chair. The forms are ideal â€Å"patterns,† unchanging, timeless, and perfect. Plato speaks of them as self-assertion: the Form of Beauty is perfectly beautiful. This led, to the Third Man Argument that there must be an infinite number of Forms. â€Å"If it’s impossible for unlike things to be like and like things unlike, isn’t it then impossible for them to be many? Because, if they were many, they would have incompatible properties† (Plato â€Å"Parmenides† 126), this is Mary Louise Gill and Paul Ryan’s translation of Plato’s Forms of Likeness and Unlikeness. Thus one and the same thing can be both like and unlike, or one and many, by participating in the Forms of Likeness and Unlikeness, of Unity and Plurality. Plato also believed that knowledge is innate, or inborn, and that the development of ideas is buried deep in the soul, and may be guided out by teachers. Plato drew a sharp distinction between knowledge, which is certain, and mere opinion. Opinions derive from the shifting world of sensation knowledge derives from the world of timeless Forms, or essences. Theaetetus stated, â€Å"It seems to me that a man who knows something perceives what he knows, and the way it appears at present, at any rate, is that knowledge is simply perception† (Cooper 168), in which Socrates agreed with that statement. In his best-known dialogue, The Republic, consisted of a lengthy dialogue on the nature of justice. Socrates identifies the four major virtues in the different aspects of this republic: the guardians possess wisdom, the auxiliaries possess courage, and the whole possesses justice and moderation. Plato believed that justice is the most important virtue. Socrates said, â€Å"Justice is minding of one’s own business and not being a busybody† (Plato â€Å"The Republic† 111). Hence, the justice of an ideal republic does not reside in any particular part of the republic but rather in the structure of the republic as a whole. While Plato is best known for his work The Republic, his larger contribution to philosophy includes many such dialogues that are of ancient thought and debate. Platos knowledge and theories have survived throughout the ages and are still relevant in todays society. He continued to teach until the end, winning the admiration and love of his students and fellow Athenians. His contributions to philosophy will be never-ending.? Works Cited Cooper, John M. , ed.
